30 month Look Back Extended Once Again

Good news for Community Medicaid applicants.

The Public Health Emergency (PHE) was last extended in October 2022 and was due to expire in January 2023. However, the Biden administration stated it would give a 60 day notice to states before the PHE actually expires.  Further reports say they will extend it at least once more, which would be April 15, 2023.

Proposed Implementation:

The State intended to implement this Amendment several years ago in 2021; however, consistent with Maintenance of Effort requirements under Section 6008(b)(1) of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), and the requirements for Home and Community Based Services under the American Rescue Plan Act, the earliest date that the State will seek implementation is March 31, 2024.

What does this mean to a disabled or elderly person applying for Community Medicaid?  Applicants in need of home-care-services could transfer their excess resources one month and become financially eligible the very next month.
